Scope and Content:
Item is a watercolor by Louise Bradley McLennan of Comte de Champfeu, a French admiral who visited Sydney in the 1880s.

He was fond of Frances McLennan, J.S. and Louise's eldest daughter, who was five or six at the time. When he was leaving to return to France he asked her for a keepsake; she looked all around the room and gave him one of Louise's long hat pins. He later remarked to Hetty Kimber that he kept it with him always. Frances passed away at the age of six in 1888.
