Helen Homan's Coffin
Dates of Creation: 1918
Physical Description: 1 photograph : b&w
Location: Cape Breton Regional Library - McLennan Collection
Reference Number: CBRL-P255
Scope and Content:
Item is a photograph of the coffin of Helen Homans, who died of influenza while volunteering as a nurse at the hospital in Pontoise, France, the 5 November, 1918, only a week before the armistice. Helen was a close friend of Katharine McLennan, and the two had experienced the war together, both volunteering at the same hospitals and taking many day trips to the French countryside together. The amount of care that was taken in arranging Helen's coffin is visible, with many elaborate flower arrangements assembled by mourners.
