Item is a photographic portrait of Louise McLennan, taken prior to the birth of Katharine.

After Louise's death in 1912, JS wrote, "Those who knew her need no words to recall to them her character, her attainments or the charm of her personality. Anything which might have been written would fail to convey to others an adequate impression of the abounding fullness of her life, her eagerness to make others share in it, or of the joyous and unshaken serenity with which she prepared for and then awaited death."
