Item is a photographic portrait of French soldier Erienne Lavergne which was taken during his time at the Hôpital Auxiliaire in Pont-Audemer, France. Lavergne was one of 163,000 Sengalese Tiraillieurs from West Africa that was called to service by the French. Katharine McLennan took a series of portraits of the men whom she served and cared for during her time as a volunteer nurse in WWI.
