J.S., Louise, and Katharine McLennan spent years gathering the information required to write Louisbourg: From its Foundations to its Fall. They meticulously copied by hand any archival documents of relevance to the history of Louisbourg. Katharine transcribed this particular letter during a research trip to France. There are hundreds of transcriptions of this kind held in the McLennan Collection at the Cape Breton Regional Library.
